This document is meant for our core testing group.

 1. Download and install the test version of Cytoscape from http://chianti.ucsd.edu/Cyto-2_2-beta/cytoscape-v2_2.zip
 1. Download and install the test version of Cytoscape from http://chianti.ucsd.edu/Cyto-2_3-beta/cytoscape-v2.3-beta1.zip
 1. You can read a '''BETA''' version of the manual here: http://cytoscape.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/Cytoscape_2.3_User_Manual

  * If you have heavily tested an aspect of Cytoscape listed above, please put your name next to it so we can get an idea of how much of the application we are testing. If you see that a specific part has not been well tested and you can't test the whole application, you may want to concentrate on that part. Also, feel free to add your own aspects of Cytoscape to the list.
  * Core plugins: filters, layouts, etc.

  * Before you log a bug, try to see if one recently added is like it. If you don't have time to do this, don't worry and just log the bug and it will be cleaned up by the bug master (Gary)
  * Remember to check the console for exceptions. When reporting a bug that involves an exception, add the exception to the bug under 'additional information'

 * Nerius will be updating the test release of Cytoscape regularly (e.g. every 2 days or so), so if you haven't tested in a while, you may want to download the new release to continue testing.
  * Please include as much information as possible when describing the bug (in the 'additional information' field) , specifically:
    * The exact steps you used to create the bug, e.g. 1. started cytoscape, 2. Imported a sif file, 3. Clicked Save icon, ...
    * Please include any exception information if there is any from the console.
    * '''Most Importantly''' Please include any data files used to create the bug including cytoscape.props, vizmap.props, attribute files, network files, or cytoscape session files (.cys). This makes it ''much'' easier to track down spurious behavior.
    * Anything else you might think relevant (time of day, phase of moon, etc.)
  * Before you log a bug, try to see if one recently added is like it. If you don't have time to do this, don't worry and just log the bug and it will be cleaned up by the bug master.
  * The test release found here http://chianti.ucsd.edu/Cyto-2_3-beta/cytoscape-v2.3-beta1.zip will be updated every day or two. When this happens the beta number will change.
 1. Don't hesitate to send questions to the cytoscape-discuss@googlegroups.com list if something is unclear.
 1. Let us know if any plugins fail. While we can't promise to fix them, we can get in touch with the authors.

How to test Cytoscape 2.3

  2. You can read a BETA version of the manual here: http://cytoscape.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/Cytoscape_2.3_User_Manual

  3. Try out as many parts of Cytoscape as you can. The parts we would like to test are:
    • Loading + saving sessions
      • Are all of your networks accounted for?
      • Are all of your visual styles applied correctly?
    • The appearance of networks - the rendering engine has changed
    • Gene Ontology wizard/new biodata server
    • Your favorite plugin.
    • Visual style creation and use
    • Graph editing
    • New attribute browser
    • All menu items
    • Core plugins: filters, layouts, etc.
  4. Report any bugs you find on the [http://cbio.mskcc.org/cytoscape/bugs/main_page.php bug tracker]. You will have to create a log in account if you don't already have one in order to log a bug.

    • Please include as much information as possible when describing the bug (in the 'additional information' field) , specifically:
      • The exact steps you used to create the bug, e.g. 1. started cytoscape, 2. Imported a sif file, 3. Clicked Save icon, ...
      • Please include any exception information if there is any from the console.
      • Most Importantly Please include any data files used to create the bug including cytoscape.props, vizmap.props, attribute files, network files, or cytoscape session files (.cys). This makes it much easier to track down spurious behavior.

      • Anything else you might think relevant (time of day, phase of moon, etc.)
    • Before you log a bug, try to see if one recently added is like it. If you don't have time to do this, don't worry and just log the bug and it will be cleaned up by the bug master.
    • The test release found here http://chianti.ucsd.edu/Cyto-2_3-beta/cytoscape-v2.3-beta1.zip will be updated every day or two. When this happens the beta number will change.
